The building housing "The Carriage House Inn", you are dining in today, was built in 1857 and has been listed on the National Registry for Historic Places. Originally this building was a warehouse for Maxwell and Zimmerman Feed Store. The building then became a Broom Factory after the turn of the century. It later became a Bus Depot. The first Restaurant to reside in this building was established in 1943 and was called 'The White House'. Decades later, the building was purchased by The Hance Family and gave birth to The Carriage House Inn. In 1998, JoAnn's Ballroom was built on the second floor of the restaurant. The ballroom seats 140 people and accommodates receptions, banquets, business meetings, and private dinners. The Carriage House Inn not only runs the restaurant but also caters all over Frederick and the surrounding areas of Emmitsburg!
