Comfort Classics. Neighborhood Ritual. The Bistro is the scratch kitchen in downtown Elizabeth City where people walk in for the burger and come back for everything else. The burger, ground from whole cuts every morning with hand-cut fries in beef tallow, earns the first visit. The Brussels sprouts with candied bacon and balsamic drizzle earn the second. By the third, regulars are into the pastas, steaks, starters, and desserts they do not expect until they sit down. Cocktails are built around high-quality ingredients, and the bar pulls solo regulars who stay for dinner. Brunch runs six days a week. The French toast sandwich, 5-egg omelets, and fresh-made cheddar-herb biscuits fill tables by 11 a.m. The Bistro is the latest in a 20+ year project by River City Hospitality Collective to build bars and restaurants where people can come together just to be together. Any night can turn into a great night.
