Opened in 2006, Romesco is a hidden culinary gem tucked away in beautiful Bonita California nestled between the cities of Chula Vista and San Diego. Mediterranean techniques and authentic Mexican recipes result in a rustic forward thinking cuisine reflecting a unique menu that creates a flare with both locals and out of town visitors gaining recognition as San Diego’s Best Mexican Restaurant for three years in a row by San Diego Magazine. With delicious dishes like “Lamb Asado,” “Mexican Risotto” and “Salmon al Ajillo,” it’s clear that Romesco succeeds in elevating simple dishes while maintaining their essence and roots. Far from complexities or presumptions, Romesco a self-declared ‘Mexiterranean’ restaurant is a simple but elegant bistro dedicated to serving harmonic courses and diverse tapas based on color, taste, texture and aromas. Romesco’s exotic blend of two worlds isn’t limited to its kitchen either, as the restaurant mixes the tastefulness of a bistro with the laid-back atmosphere of a tapas bar, resulting in a venue that can be visited at night or day, both for upscale meals and fun nights out. If you want to enjoy a more relaxed-formal experience, our main dining room was designed to evoke a touch of Mediterranean flair like a classic European Bistro should. If you would like a livelier experience, inside the Restaurant but in a separate room is a Spanish Tapas Bar. This space reflects and inspires a Spanish barroom with surroundings of bullfight paintings and warm dark wood décor that will make you want to stay long into the night and enjoy an extensive happy hour menu that includes tapas and house specialty drinks like the acclaimed tamarindo martini. Make sure to sip on one of our specialty cocktails, Baja California wines or regional craft beer from one of San Diego’s or Baja’s most acclaimed Microbreweries. Zagat describes Romesco as “fabulous, imaginative and upscale Mexican cuisine with Mediterranean accents.” Salud!
